Event ideas
Unsure what to host? Here's some ideas
Online
As you start out your community, you might want to run online events to get the vibe of the people before meeting them, or you want some low pressure, at-home fun instead of going out, especially if you like video games.
Best way to do this is to have a group chat, e.g. on Discord and you can do these:
- Do a watch party - movie, series, an exciting YouTube video
- ...or a listening party to listen to your favourite artists new album
- Play some online games! Here's some casual favourites that anyone can enjoy
- skribbl.io or drawasaurus - the classic where someone draws and everyone guesses what they're drawing
- Gartic phone - game of broken telephone but with images
- Codenames
- Out of context - write a story one person at a time with minimal context
- GeoGuessr
- Kahoot
- Generals
- Jackbox (paid) - collection of minigames
- Do a presentation night, e.g. talking about your favourite topics or presenting someone else's slides without seeing them
Low pressure
Just your casual stuff
- Go to a pub or a cafe for a chat
- Picnic
- Local walk
- Shopping trip (charity shop crawl, shopping centre, markets)
Organised
If you want something regular or scheduled
- Hike further out
- Weekly clubs
- Book club
- Arts and crafts (sketching, knitting, crochet, paperwork, all of the above and more all at once)
- Board or video games nights
- Movie nights at someone's house or local cinema
- Run or other sports clubs
- Visit a museum or a gallery
- See a play at the theatre
- Volunteer together
- Teach each other something
- Do a "come dine with me" style dinner
Day to day
Not exactly an event idea, but you might be going about your day and just want someone to come hang with you. They're local, so why not ask?
- Tag along to your weekly grocery shop
- Come walk my dog with me
- Happen to get off the same train at the same time and heading in the same direction? Have a chat until your path splits
- Going to the same gym? Go together!
- Study or work at a library together
